LEGO ROBOTICS PROGRAMS

Afterschool Program

  • 9 – 15 years old

FIRST LEGO League Challenge is geared towards students in grades 4th-9th, providing a platform for students to Design, Build, and Program a LEGO Robot to compete in an autonomous table game. Students will create an innovative solution to a real-world problem identified within the yearly challenge and share their idea with experts and the community that can use it. Students will develop their critical and analytical thinking, understand the importance of team building, obtain basic STEM concept knowledge, work on problem-solving, and practice their public speaking and presentation skills. Throughout the season, team members of up to ten students will learn new concepts and step outside of their comfort zones with the assistance of their coaches and mentors. No prior experience is needed, just a willingness to want to learn and grow. Teams will be challenged to share what they’ve learned throughout the season by delivering presentations, demonstrating the core values, and displaying the technical skills they’ve learned at regional and possibly national robotics competitions.

  • 5 – 10 years old

FIRST LEGO League Explore is designed to introduce basic (STEM) concepts to kids in grades K-4th grade, by engaging them with LEGO. Students will learn how to be critical thinkers and problem solvers. Teams will comprise two or more adult coaches with up to six kids exploring a fun and real scientific problem. Teams will create a SHOW ME poster that reflects the teams' research, ideas, and season's journey and also what they learned by speaking to an expert on their challenge topic. Students will use motorization when constructing a creative LEGO model and they will share what they’ve learned and built at an Oregon Expo. No prior experience is required, just a willingness to learn new things and have fun with other students who enjoy learning new things as well.
